,�JNtYOFy�* <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 268 17 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE FRIENDS OF <br /> HOKULE`A AND HAWAI`ILOA FOR THE "MAHALO, HAWAII SAIL" <br /> EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH IN WEST HAWAII. <br /> WHEREAS, members of the Polynesian Voyaging Society sailed Hokulea, a double- <br /> hulled canoe, around the world on a historic three-year voyage called the Malama Honua <br /> Worldwide Voyage; and <br /> WHEREAS, to thank the community for their support, crew members are sailing <br /> Hokule`a and Hikianalia on a six-month tour called "Mahalo, Hawai`i Sail," which is an <br /> educational outreach initiative to nearly 80 communities throughout the Hawaiian Islands; and <br /> WHEREAS, crew members of the Hokulea and Hikianalia will visit Hawai`i Island from <br /> September 29 to October 27, 2017, which will include ports along the West Hawai`i coast; and <br /> WHEREAS, The Friends of Hokule`a and Hawai`iloa is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit <br /> organization whose mission is to teach and perpetuate the Hawaiian traditions of building, <br /> restoring, and caring for canoes; and <br /> WHEREAS, during the "Mahalo, Hawai`i Sail," The Friends of Hokule`a and <br /> Hawai`iloa will be working with the crew members of Hokulea and Hikianalia to coordinate <br /> outreach and educational events for schools and communities, which will include service <br /> projects, crew presentations, and canoe tours; and <br /> WHEREAS, The Friends of Hokule`a and Hawai`iloa is requesting funds to purchase <br /> materials, supplies, food, and drinks for the "Mahalo, Hawai`i Sail" outreach events in West <br /> Hawai`i; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation supports this educational outreach <br /> as it falls within its Culture and Education program to promote, perpetuate, and encourage <br /> activities and programs in culture, art, history, and humanities; and <br /> WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, <br /> service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 6 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to The Friends of Hokule`a and Hawai`iloa to coordinate <br /> events during the"Mahalo, Hawai`i Sail" educational outreach in West Hawai`i. <br />
